LEAD IN- I'm sure everyone has seen them, the black and yellow signs on the Cambus or bulletin boards with the words Phil Was Here. And many people probably have wondered who in fact, Phil is, and as Daily Iowan TVs Brandon Hurley found out, Phil is not really a human being at all.

(VO)

Phil was here is a campaign lead by the Levitt Center for University of Advancement, located next to Hancher. It's the strange, but beautiful looking building that many students have never been inside but have always wondered what goes on in there. The Levitt Center is home to the UI Foundation, a group dedicated to recieving donations for advancing the Univeristy. It was built in 1988 and has seen huge success over the 11 years it has stood.

(SOT (Forrest Talking about Phill Was Here Campaign))
Phil was here was an idea we came up with to try and peek some interest in the campus community and the whole idea of philanthropy.

(VO)
The campaign is found on facebook if you search Phil Was Here and they try to post new things daily. But why Phil?

(SOT)
We kind of wanted to put a face on philanthropy, so Phil has become that person, and since either everybody benefits from philanthropy, from gifts to the UI or who makes gifts for the UI is Phil in a sense.

(VO)

Around 80 students work in the Levitt Center, making phone calls to Alumni and boosters asking for donations to the University.

The Levit Center is a state of the art building and has given the UI Foundation more room to work with.

(SOT)
The fourth floor especially in this building, we host many events their, events with donors, alumni, with students a lot of kinda quasi public events and I think what makes this building special is its accessability.

Anchor TAG- THE UI FOUNDATION, SINCE THE LEVITT CENTER HAS OPENED, HAS PROVIDED MANY FUNDS FOR BUILDINGS AROUND CAMPUS, SUCH AS THE POMERANTZ CENTER, THE ADLER JOURNALISM BUILDING AND THE UI ATHLETICS HALL OF FAME. NOW THAT ALUMNI AND FUTURE ALUMNI KNOW WHERE THE LEVITT CENTER IS, MAYBE THEY CAN SEND THEIR FUNDS TO THE UNIVERSITY IN THE FUTURE.... FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, I'M BRANDON HURLEY.

Anchor Lede- THEY SEEM AS IF THEY ARE EVERYWHERE THESE DAYS, POPPING UP IN THE LEAST LIKELY OF PLACES, IN YOUR BED, ON YOUR CLOTHES, EVEN ON YOUR ALARM CLOCK. YES, I AM TALKING ABOUT BED BUGS, AND FOR THE PAST YEAR WE HAVE SEEN AN UNUSUAL RISE IN REPORTED CASES THROUGHOUT THE STATE. REPORTER BRANDON HURLEY SPOKE TO SOMEONE WHO HAS SEEN THE RESULTS OF THE BITES FIRSTHAND

(SOT)
It was about in November... around the same time as now....... Well my girlfriend spent the night, and she noticed the next day that she had bites, all along her side.

(VO)
THESE BITES TYPICALLY SIGNAL THAT THERE ARE INDEED, BED BUGS LIVING IN YOUR BED, EVEN THOUGH MOST PEOPLE WOULD ASSUME THESE LITTLE RED BUMPS TO BE ACNE OR NORMAL BUG BITES.
BED BUGS DON'T TRANSMIT ANY DISEASES, BUT IT IS VERY HARD TO GET RID OF THEM. VACUUMING DOESN'T HELP, AND EVEN POWER OUTLETS PROVIDE ENOUGH WARMTH FOR THESE TINY CRITTERS.

(SOT)
She had told me that her brother had the same problem at his apartment.

(VO)
BED BUGS TEND TO LIVE WHEREVER HUMANS GO. THEY TRANSPORT FROM PLACE TO PLACE BY LUGGAGE, CLOTHES AND EVEN COUCHES.

(SOT)
He told me I should buy a bed bug mattress cover

(VO)
THESE MATTRESS COVERS SUFFOCATE THE BED BUGS AND PREVENT THEM FROM SPREADING ANYWHERE. THEY RUN ABOUT 40 DOLLARS.

(SOT)
My apartment and her apartment cost about 4 or 500 dollars each.

(VO)
ANOTHER TATIC TO ATTEMPT TO GET RID OF THEM IS TO DRY ALL CLOTHES AND SHEETS AND OVERHEAT THEM. THOUGH THE BEST WAY TO EXTERMINATE THEM IS TO BUY A STEAM CLEANER AND GO OVER EVERY PROBLEM AREA.

SIG OUT- ONCE YOU HAVE THE STEAM CLEANER, TAKE OFF YOUR SHEETS AND JUST STEAM IT DOWN, DO THE SIDES, ON TOP FLIP IT OVERA AND MAKE SURE YOU GET IT ALL GOOD AND DO THE SAME WITH YOUR COUCHES AND ALL YOUR CLOTHES, AND YOUR CHAIR IF YOU HAVE ANY CREASES JUST DO THE SAME WITH THAT. FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, I'M BRANDON HURLEY.

ANCHOR LEDE--- With their 3rd coach in just 4 years, the Iowa hawkeyes basketball team ushered in a new era on Sunday, Fran McCaffery steps in to replace Todd Lickliter who was fired after he led the Hawks to an all time record in losses. Reporter Brandon Hurley went over to Carver Hawkeye Arena to see if the program is on the way up.

(VO)
Empty seats and fans exciting the arena early were a common site for the hawkeyes last season with coach Todd Lickliter at the helm. The hawks set an all-time high for losses in a season, going 10 and 22 and nearly all those loses were blowouts and low scoring affairs.

But in comes new head coach Fran McCaffery from Siena and his run and gun attack.

(SOT)
I Think it was a good hire...It will take time.

(VO)
But how much time? Some fans are waiting for the success to come back right away.

(SOT)
A year or two down the line.... Better athleticism then last year, the team's improving and I like the pace they are running with.

(VO)
The Hawkeyes averaged just under 10 thousand fans a game last year, ranking near the bottom of the big ten, and a new hire is sure to excite the crowd.

(SOT)
The first game was a little disappointing but again I think it was mainly lot of turnovers, a lot of little things, but... they will be fine.

TAG- WITH A NEW COACH COMES STRUGGLE, AND EVEN THOUGH THE HAWKS HAVE STUMBLED OUT TO A 4 AND 4 START IMPROVEMENT IS IN THE NEAR FUTURE, AND EVEN THOUGH THEY MAY NOT MAKE THE BIG DANCE, OR WIN THE BIG TEN CONFERENCE, THEY WILL SEE IMPROVEMENT... FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA, I'M BRANDON HURLEY.

New Coach

ANCHOR LEDE--- With their 3rd coach in just 4 years, the Iowa hawkeyes basketball team ushered in a new era on Sunday, with mixed reactions. Reporter Brandon Hurley went over to Carver Hawkeye Arena to see what went down.

(SOT)
More excitement, more enthusiasim to carver get more students here. I think Fran can do that, I think Fran's a good coach to be honest. I think he'll get the program right back on the map.

TAG- With all this optimism and hopefulness, the hawkeyes did open the McCaffery era Sunday disappointing fashion though, falling to the South Dakota State Jack Rabits 79-69 immediate success can't be expected right out of the gate, but there will be progress from game to game. And if the fans continue to support this new coaching staff, success may come sooner then you think. For the University of Iowa, I'm Brandon Hurley

---By the way Charles, I could not figure out how to cancel out the background music and band. I searched everywhere and even went on youtube and nothing worked. If we could go over this in class sometime after break that would be great.

(SIG OUT)
EVEN THOUGH THEY DO LIKE WARM AREAS, THEY DON'T LIKE IT TOO WARM. ONCE IT GETS TO 120 DEGREES IT WILL ELIMNATE ALL BED BUGS AND ALL OF THE EGGS. SO YOU BUY THE STEAM CLEANER AND THEN YOU JUST STEAM DOWN YOUR WHOLE MATTRESS. BOTH SIDES, MAKE SURE YOU GET THE CREASES VERY, VERY WELL. FLIP IT ON THE SIDES AND THEN YOU DO THE SAME WITH THE BOX SPRINGS... AND MOST LIKELY, THIS WILL GET RID OF ALL YOUR BED BUG PROBLEMS. SO IF YOU HAVE BED BUGS, CHECK YOUR MATTRESS.
